Vic Fangio on Borland playing: “It would be a stretch right now.”

San Francisco 49ers DC Vic Fangio was asked today if rookie third-round pick (No. 77) ILB Chris Borland would play again this season and Fangio said, “It would be a stretch right now.” Borland who has played in all 14 games this season leads the team in tackles with 107.

Borland who has filled in admirably for Pro Bowl ILB Patrick Willis, has been all that GM Trent Baalke had hoped for. Back in May when we received his scouting report after he was drafted it was the longest of any player. A stat sheet filled with accolades, it’s no wonder Borland had rookie season success.

He sealed the 49ers victory with a ‘hustle play’ on that fumble recovery against the New Orleans Saints and also had a team-high two interceptions against the New York Giants.

With Borland likely to go on season-ending IR, it will be up to others to be that next man up.
