49ers Move DE Arik Armstead to IR, Sign DT Chris Jones

In a season that started off promising with a 28-0 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1, the San Francisco 49ers have struggled mightily to put another win on the board. The bad news seems to just keep piling on.

Tuesday morning, it was reported that DE Arik Armstead had suffered a shoulder injury; the Niners subsequently moved him to the IR.

Armstead, ineffective on the season, now has limited or almost no chance to prove his worth. Drafted in the first round in 2015, he and DE DeForest Buckner were supposed to be the cornerstones of the 49ers’ defense. Unfortunately, however, they have been unable to help stop opponents’ run game, as the 49ers are ranked dead last in that category, allowing 193 rushing yards per game.

This injury limits his opportunity to prove that he isn’t a bust, to prove that maybe GM Trent Balkee deserves to be the GM of a professional team. So far, that doesn’t seem like the case.

After moving Armstead to the IR, the 49ers claimed DT Chris Jones off of waivers. Is it time to do something different?
