Why 49ers’ trades will likely yield 2015 draft picks

In a day where I anticipated the San Francisco 49ers to be wheeling and dealing on Day two, they did just that, as they made five trades. However, there was one trade in particular that will likely set a trend for Day three as I believe the 49ers purposely stockpiled late-round draft picks yesterday in order to build their chip stack for the 2015 NFL Draft. A trade that saw the 49ers swing a three-for-two deal with the Denver Broncos while landing a future 2015 fourth-round draft pick, GM Trent Baalke is doing everything he can as he tries to stay one step ahead of his competition.

The 49ers currently hold seven draft picks today, and it’s clear, the 49ers will indeed package a few draft picks today in order to get future 2015 picks. As it currently stands the 49ers hold the following selections:

1. 4th Round (No. 106) from Cleveland

2. 4th Round (No. 129)

3. 5th Round (No. 150) from Jacksonville

4. 5th Round (No. 170)

5. 6th Round (No. 180) from Cleveland

6. 7th Round (No. 243) from Carolina in S Colin Jones trade in 2012

7. 7th Round (No. 245)

With the 49ers always looking to stay ahead they should land at least one future 2015 fourth-round draft pick.
