WATCH: 49ers’ Sign Top CFL Receiver Eric Rogers, Highlight Reel Proves Worthy Of NFL

Just shortly after San Francisco 49ers HC Chip Kelly’s press conference concluded, a report surfaced by Adam Schefter of ESPN, saying that the team signed CFL star WR Eric Rogers.

Rogers, who led the Canadian Football League with 1,448 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns last year, has received interest from 16 NFL teams who have brought him in for visits. Among those teams included the Indianapolis Colts and New York Giants.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Rogers is getting a $125,000 signing bonus and another $100,000 in guaranteed salary. That’s the most lucrative guarantee for a player from the CFL since the Miami Dolphins gave DE Cameron Wake a $1 million signing bonus back in 2008.

What does this mean for the 49ers? Not much, considering free-agency and the NFL draft have yet to take place. Not to mention, the team signed former Calgary Stampeder OLB Shawn Lemon last year, it remains to be seen if Rogers will even crack the practice squad despite being listed at 6-4, 200 plus.

With the 49ers trying to find talent, it will be interesting to see who they target in free-agency as many holes need to be filled with Pro Bowl talent.
