The San Francisco 49ers received bad news last week as DE Glenn Dorsey suffered another season-ending injury as he tore his ACL while being placed on season-ending IR. A player who has been no stranger to the injury bug, as Dorsey missed the entire 2014 season with a torn biceps, will now be on the outside looking in, as other players will likely fill-in.
Now it appears that 49ers DC Eric Mangini will be shaking up the defensive line in his absence as DE Quinton Dial told me that he will be making the switch to the left side. “I’ll be playing on the left and Arik will be playing the right,” Dial told me.
What this all means is that rookie first-round pick (No. 17) DE Arik Armstead will now get the starting role on the right side while DE Tank Carradine will likely be activated as the team’s pass-rusher on passing downs. “With Arik he’s young and we’re just trying to bring him along as fast as we can, so he can get that game time experience.”
With the 49ers continuing to find healthy bodies, it will be interesting to see how they shape up against the Arizona Cardinals, as they will be looking to run at them early and often.
