WATCH: 49ers’ Acquire LB Gerald Hodges From Vikings

The San Francisco 49ers shook up their roster today as they acquired LB Gerald Hodges from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for C Nick Easton.

Easton was initially acquired by the 49ers via a trade with the Baltimore Ravens that sent a seventh-round pick to the Ravens. A player who graded out as the No. 1 overall center during the 2015 preseason, it appears that Easton will now be off to Minnesota.

But why would the team make this trade? The 49ers offensive line is struggling and C Marcus Martin is arguably the worst center in the league — leaving this move to be a head scratcher at best.

Originally a fourth-round pick (No. 120) of the 2013 NFL Draft, the Penn State product will now likely compete at the inside linebacker position as he works his way up the depth-chart.

In 29 regular-season games, Hodges has recorded 91 tackles, 0.5 sacks, and one interception.
