I think it’s safe to say that many people predicted New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. would garner many Rookie of the Year honors. (Watch the amazing one-handed catch below)
A highly coveted skill player coming out of the 2014 NFL Draft, it was the San Francisco 49ers who were very high on him. However, GM Trent Baalke felt the asking price was too rich for their blood and thus no trade was made.
Now, with the 2014 regular season officially in the books, it was the player known as OBJ who made his mark as he set numerous rookie records while being named both the PFWA Rookie of the Year and Offensive Rookie of the Year. From setting the rookie club-record for receiving yards, 1,305, or recreating NFL history by averaging 108.8 receiving yards per game, OBJ was well worth the Giants investment.
In OBJ’s rookie campaign he routinely made ESPNs Top 10 plays including the catch of the century as he hauled in a one-handed (three finger) catch. A human highlight film, OBJ would make difficult catches look easy as the game came naturally to him.
OBJ finished his rookie season with 91 receptions for 1,305 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns.
Now, the 49ers will have to find the next OBJ in this year’s draft and three players I am very high on include WR Devante Parker, WR Kevin White, and WR Devin Funchness.
