Well, duh! Today, NFL head of officiating Dean Blandino was on NFL Network and was asked if San Francisco 49ers ILB Nick Moody hit on Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson warranted a roughing the passer penalty. “It’s close, but when you look at it on tape, Moody’s head is up, he hits with more the side or the facemask to the body of the quarterback. So in our review, with the ability to look at it in slow motion, it is not a foul,” Blandino said. WATCH THE PLAY BELOW!
I said right after the play happened that the NFL would apologize as I tweeted:
And the NFL will send yet another notice to Santa Clara tomorrow saying they got it wrong on that “helmet to the chest of the QB,” call. — Ryan Sakamoto (@SakamotoRyan) December 14, 2014
Moody said after the game, “It felt like it was clean to me,” while head coach Jim Harbaugh said, “I didn’t agree with the call.” A smiling Wilson on the other hand said, “I thought it was a good call. Worked out for us.”
