Tomsula Downplays Coach T-Mac Comments, Defends WR Bruce Ellington: “I hope he didn’t say that.”

Just one day after San Francisco 49ers special-teams coach Thomas McGaughey ripped his own player in WR Bruce Ellington — it was head coach Jim Tomsula who defended his second-year player.

Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle asked Tomsula if Ellington would be demoted due to fumbling the football as coach T-Mac hinted yesterday and Tomsula responded by saying: “I hope he didn’t say that.”

Tomsula then went on to say that “Bruce is our punt-returner.” Well there you have it. There will be no RB Jarryd Hayne talk for at least another week as they will keep Ellington as the primary return specialist.
