Who would you rather face? Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning or San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick? According to a Sports Illustrated poll by Andy Benoit (The Monday Morning Quarterback), when he polled a dozen coaches at the NFL scouting combine, the “solid majority” said they would rather face the 13-time Pro Bowl quarterback rather than the dual-threat weapon. Why?
Their argument is that they already know what they are getting when they face Manning. A smart savvy football player able to extend drives with his innate ability to read defenses pre-snap. The wild-card continues to be the 49ers franchise quarterback. A player that can beat you with both his arms and legs, you can bet your top dollar that defensive coordinators need extra preparation as they go through all the “what if’s” as Kaepernick can give defensive coordinators nightmares. I’m not saying that Manning doesn’t. He certainly will.
And while none of the dozen coaches admitted that Kaepernick was a better quarterback than Manning, the fact that they said that Kaepernick was “more stressful” to face was interesting. It makes sense to me. Who would you rather face?
