Sakamoto: 49ers’ Jim Tomsula Remains Mum on RB Jarryd Hayne After Revealing Injury Report

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula gave updates on six injured players as both second-year players OLB Aaron Lynch (concussion) and DB Jimmie Ward (elbow) were back in practice while veteran ILB Michael Wilhoite (high-ankle sprain) continues to rehab from his early injury in the Chicago Bears game.

There is not better news to report on the offensive side either as G Alex Boone (knee sprain) will have an MRI, RB Kendall Gaskins (concussion) will go through the concussion protocol while WR Torrey Smith (back spasms) continues to deal with an ailing back.

Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group asked Tomsula a simple question on if rookie RB Jarryd Hayne would be activated as KG (Gaskins) goes via NFL protocol.

I’ve been saying since Nov. 2 that Hayne needs to play but for some reason the coaching staff doesn’t see it that way. Why? Special-teams coach Thomas McGaughey talks highly about not fumbling the football yet WR Bruce Ellington has already shown to do that. So my thinking is let’s give Hayne another shot. What does the team have to lose? A playoff race? They are already out so let the Hayne Plane play!
