Sakamoto: 49ers’ Interested In Boise State T/G Rees Odhiambo

The San Francisco 49ers have already shored up the left side of their offensive line with the free-agent signing of G Zane Beadles but the team could use more depth, and as a result are meeting with underrated yet talented G Rees Odhiambo (pronounced AH-dee-AHM-bo).

The Boise State product has the skill set and athleticism to thrive in a zone blocking scheme at the next level, and that’s exactly what Odhiambo would bring to San Francisco. At 6-4, 314, Odhiambo would easily become the primary backup swing guard behind RG Andrew Tiller while adding versatility across the line.

The Kenya native played tackle at Boise State but would likely move inside to guard in the NFL. A very powerful, tough, and fundamentally sound offensive lineman, I project Odhiambo to be selected in the late third to early fourth-round as the knock on him has been his durability.

With the 49ers looking to build their team through the draft, they will surely take a few offensive lineman in the mid-to-late rounds as they convert from a power scheme based offense to the zone blocking scheme.
