The San Francisco 49ers have fired 10 assistant coaches according to Pro Football Talk. Not a surprise considering HC Chip Kelly is now at the helm, it appears he is now set on recruiting his own staff.
And while DC Eric Mangini’s future in San Francisco is still in doubt with the team interviewing Houston Texans LBC Mike Vrabel for that position, the fate of 10 former assistant coaches has already been sealed as the following coaches will now be looking for work elsewhere.
OC Geep Chryst, QBC Steve Logan, WRC Adam Henry, WRC Ronald Curry, Offensive Assistants T.C. McCartney and Joe Scola, DBC Tim Lewis, DLC Scott Brown, and Defensive Assistants Ejiro Evero and Aubrayo Franklin.
Chip Kelly needs to retain two coaches who are well respected inside #49ers locker room. RB Coach Tom Rathman & LB Coach Jason Tarver.

However, not all assistant coaches will be axed as RBC Tom Rathman will be retained while I’m hearing that OLBC Jason Tarver is also a likely candidate to stay.

In other news, the team has reached out to four-time All-Pro LB Hardy Nickerson about the vacant ILB coaching position left by Clancy Pendergast, who accepted a job to be USC’s defensive coordinator. Nickerson previously served as the LB coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers since 2014.
With the 49ers relieving ten coaches from their respective duties, that brings the total number to 13 coaches who are no longer with the team as TEC Tony Sparano joined the Minnesota Vikings as their new Offensive Line coach, OLC Chris Foerster joined Adam Gase’s staff in Miami for the same position while Pendergast became DC of USC.
