Sakamoto: 49ers’ ‘Dial Up’ 3-Year Contract Extension With Quinton Dial

Just one day after extending TE Garrett Celek, the San Francisco 49ers continue to do their part in retaining their young talent as they inked DE Quinton Dial to a three-year contract extension. The Alabama product has been a rock along the team’s defensive line while having a breakout campaign in 2015 in which he recorded a career-high 59 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Originally a fifth-round pick (No. 157) of the 2013 NFL Draft, it appears the 49ers are set at the four-techniques as Dial and last year’s first-round pick DE Arik Armstead should anchor the line. Now, the team will have to make a decision on NT Ian Williams, who Dial has told me, is a player that makes everyone’s job easier.

49ers GM Trent Baalke had this to say about the Alabama A-Hole: “Throughout his first three seasons in the NFL, Quinton has shown consistent development and has become a key contributor in our defense,” said 49ers general manager Trent Baalke. “We have certainly seen his positive impact on the field and in our locker room, but we also recognize the impressive work he does in the community year round. We are pleased to extend the contract of young players like Quinton and are excited to see him continue his career with the 49ers.”

With the 49ers holding the No. 7 overall selection in this year’s NFL draft, it looks more and more like the team will go pass-rusher (OLB) or offensive tackle in round one if they stay at No. 7.
