According to NBC reporter Dianna Russini, the San Francisco 49ers are expected to reveal their first cap-casualty as WR Stevie Johnson will be the first to go.
Per sources, 49ers are expected to release Stevie Johnson. This will save 5.5 million of cap room. #49ers

Russini believes the 49ers will save $5.5 million in cap relief from making the move, but I project them to save more than that with a $6.25 million cap figure. A scenario I envisioned as I came up with the 49ers top three players who will likely be released two weeks ago, it looks like Johnson will be the first one on the chopping block.
Johnson was acquired in a draft-day trade with the Buffalo Bills that sent a future conditional 2015 fourth-round draft pick.
In one season in San Francisco, Johnson recorded 35 receptions for 435 yards and three touchdowns.
