According to NFL Insider Tony Pauline, the San Francisco 49ers have scheduled a pre-draft visit with small-school prospect CB Tray Walker.
The 49ers who most recently released CB Cameron Fuller will continue to shore up their cornerback depth and it looks like Walker may be on their short list. At 6-2, 187, Walker ran a 4.54 40-yard dash, 32.5 inch vertical, and 122 inch broad jump. And while the Texas Southern product didn’t exactly display blazing speed, it’s his length and size that has scouts intrigued.
Walker’s skill-set reminds me a lot of 2000 first-round pick CB Rashard Anderson. Another small school prospect as Anderson came from Jackson State–the two seem to have similar ball-skills and agility when it comes to breaking on the ball.
Projected to be a late-round flier, Walker could very well slip to the team as an undrafted rookie free-agent as he is not a top tier cornerback in this year’s NFL draft.
In other news, the San Francisco 49ers met with LSU T La’El Collins after his pro day according to Tony Pauline. If you remember, the 49ers met with WR Odell Beckham Jr. after his pro day at LSU last year so this should come as no surprise as the 49ers covet LSU Tigers.
With the 49ers looking to find that next diamond in the rough, it will be interesting to see what GM Trent Baalke does as the team can go in a number of directions.
