Report: 49ers’ Request Interview With Bengals OC Hue Jackson

The San Francisco 49ers search for a new head coach is officially underway as the team was granted permission along with the Miami Dolphins to interview Cincinnati Bengals OC Hue Jackson.

Jackson has Bay Area ties, as he last coached the Oakland Raiders back in 2011 while guiding the team to an 8-8 record in his lone season as head coach. Since then, Jackson has joined forces with Bengals HC Marvin Lewis as the team’s offensive coordinator the past two seasons.

Jackson is no stranger to the 49ers as he has been here before — he was interviewed back in 2011 before the team opted for then head coach Jim Harbaugh.

With Jackson being the first known interview — this will also quickly satisfy the Rooney Rule. A rule established by the NFL back in 2003 in which minority candidate must be interviewed during the process first before making an official decision on a head coach.

Could the team be targeting New Orleans Saints HC Sean Payton? Time will tell.
