Report: 49ers’ Hold Pre-Draft Visit With Brock Lutes

San Francisco 49ers GM Trent Baalke loves to scout football players with basketball backgrounds especially on the offensive side of the ball. He did it with WR Bruce Ellington last year and looks like he will be doing it again this year with Bemidji State TE Brock Lutes.

First reported by Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, Lutes will make a pre-draft visit to Santa Clara later this month. Lutes who was the floor general for Bemidji State, led the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) in scoring with 21.3 ppg, was named NSIC Newcomer of the Year, and selected First-Team All NSIC.

And while he is shown doing the two-ball figure 8 dribbling drill in the video above, he needs to keep his head up so he could see the entire court. Nonetheless, he is an impressive athlete.

At 6-3, 230, Lutes has the size to create mismatches down the seams. A player that understands spacing when running his routes much like on iso-plays on the basketball court should help Lutes stock. Not to mention, the Beavers product boasted the top short shuttle with a 4.21 second performance at the NFL combine–makes him a prospect worth scouting.

With the 49ers continuing to bring prospects to Santa Clara we will updated on the latest as it unfolds.
