Report: 49ers’ Bench Colin Kaepernick, Blaine Gabbert Named Starter

The San Francisco 49ers finally made the switch to QB Blaine Gabbert as the QB Colin Kaepernick experiment is over for now.

The news was first reported by Kyle McLorg of the Bay Area Sports Guy, followed by NFL Network, Ian Rapoport as he’s told that Gabbert will now be the starter moving forward.

Kaepernick who struggled mightily behind a suspect offensive line, will now be watching from the sidelines for the first time since taking over for QB Alex Smith back in 2012.

In eight games this season, Kaepernick has passed for 1,615 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions.
