After the San Francisco 49ers lost to the Seattle Seahawks 29-3, Seahawks CB Richard Sherman in typical Richard Sherman fashion ran his mouth. A mouth that is faster than the Indy 500, Sherman took jabs, hooks, and low blows at the 49ers organization, starting with 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh. After the game had ended, Sherman had some words for Harbaugh as he said:
I told him good job, good game, but he didn’t give me nothing back. I guess sportsmanship doesn’t go both ways.
Sportsmanship? A player that dances with cheerleaders on the sidelines after an interception wants respect for sportsmanship? Don’t get me wrong, Sherman is an absolute top tier cornerback in the NFL, but to hold a double standard is ignorant on his part. Let’s look at the facts.
After the win in his post game interview with NBC, Sherman said:
There were a lot of pundits and ignorant idiots who thought we were gonna lose this game. Don’t doubt us. Did they not see the last time we played this team? That last time was a 42-13 victory in December, also in Seattle. A lot of things were said this week that we didn’t appreciate. We did what we expected to do.
Talk about being humble, classy, and professional. Sherman you are a great cornerback and arguably the best cornerback in the NFL, but when you run your mouth and furthermore demand your peers to give you some “sportsmanship,” the least you can do is give some in return. And by the way, I have no idea why you are trying to celebrate FS Dashon Goldson’s dance. There is only one “Hawk,” and that’s Goldson, so do yourself a favor, be original, and come up with something new.
A player that talks the talk but also walks the walk, the 49ers should do everything they can to ensure Sherman never runs his mouth again.
