The San Francisco 49ers received bad news today as CB Chris Culliver was arrested today on felony hit-and-run charges. According to the San Jose Police Department, they received a call at 10:21 a.m. reporting that a bicyclist was hit at the intersection of Tully and Senter road in San Jose and then fled the scene. An eyewitness in his car then proceeded to follow the vehicle and cornered the car at Mekler court. The car which was occupied by Culliver, got out of his vehicle and threatened the eyewitness with brass knuckles according to the report, got back in his car and fled while striking the eyewitness’ vehicle in the process.

San Jose Police arrived on the scene and then took Culliver into custody without incident who was later booked in Santa Clara County Jail. The 49ers released a statement saying:

The 49ers organization is aware of the recent matter involving Chris Culliver. We will remain in contact with Chris and the local authorities as we continue to gather the facts regarding this situation. As this is an ongoing legal matter, we will reserve further comment at this time.

With the 49ers preparing for this upcoming NFL Draft, Culliver’s future with the team will greatly determine what the team does with their first-round pick as cornerback may now be the unanimous No. 1 need.
