After dissecting Middle Tennessee State’s Pro Day, San Francisco 49ers head/National Scout Matt Malaspina traveled to Vanderbilt to watch highly coveted WR Jordan Matthews. A player that I have been high on all season long, it should be no surprise that Matthews is on the 49ers short list. Malaspina, who continues to attend those Pro Days in which first-round wide-receivers are at a premium, as he already scouted and held a private meeting with WR Mike Evans (Texas A&M), Matthews was next in line.
Matthews who would be considered a “legacy” with the 49ers, as his older cousin WR Jerry Rice shattered numerous receiving records on his way to being the best receiver to ever play the game, Matthews should feel right at home. And if you ask me who I think the 49ers should target, Matthews is my No. 1 wide receiver as I believe he would fit offensive coordinator Greg Roman’s scheme to a tee all while doubling as an insurance policy should WR Michael Crabtree’s contract talks hit a snag.
