Jerry Rice Jr. declines to wear No. 80, opts for No. 83

With the San Francisco 49ers starting their rookie minicamp today, the local media had the opportunity to catch up with WR Jerry Rice Jr. The legacy of the great Jerry Rice as his father is greatest player of all-time, Junior has now followed in his footsteps.

However, Junior emphasized he’s his own man and wants no special treatment. Asked what number he will be wearing he said No. 83. Why not No. 80? Junior said, “They asked if I wanted 80, I said, ‘No, not right now. “I’m my own individual. Obviously, I have his DNA, too. In the end, I am Rice Jr. and not Rice Sr.”
