Jeremiah Poutasi Has Pre-Draft Visit With 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers clearly need more depth at offensive line. A unit that lost their best run-blocker via free-agency in G Mike Iupati, it will be up to others such as second-year player G Brandon Thomas to relish the starting role. However, the team still needs reinforcements and as a result will be holding a pre-draft visit for Utah OL Jeremiah Poutasi according to Matt Barrows.

The 49ers who attended Poutasi’s pro day showed better numbers than what he put up at the NFL combine as he had a 27-inch vertical, 99-inch broad jump, and 4.89 short shuttle, although those numbers were still far below the five-year combine averages for the position.

At 6-5, 335, Poutasi is not your ideal left tackle as he lunges too much allowing defensive ends to use speed-to-power to blow right past him. However, he is strong once he gets his hands inside and that is something the 49ers can work with. In 2013, Poutasi gave up a combined 27 quarterback hits/hurries but drastically improved in 2014 as that number diminished to nine.

With the 49ers continuing to bring in prospects for pre-draft visits we will keep you updated on the latest as it unfolds.
