Holmgren on 49ers: “The important thing is, it’s done!”

According to Seattle Radio Station KJR, the San Francisco 49ers are not interested in former head coach Mike Holmgren. “It’s not that hard,” Holmgren said. “There was always a side of me that says, ‘OK, at my age, I get it.’ Every organization is looking for, if they’re being honest, a guy who can be the coach for the next 10, 15 years. That’s what they want. I get that.

Now, if my reputation would allow me to go in for a five-year shot or something, which would be realistic, then, OK. But I get that. I was prepared for that.”

49ers CEO Jed York made it clear during his press conference that he wanted a coach who was a great ‘teacher’ and would be around for 10 years. With Holmgren’s age and possible power struggle later down the road as Holmgren likes to be hands on personnel wise, it looked like the two were not compatible and thus no interview was given.

Holmgren was asked if he would fit with the 49ers management if indeed he was coach and he said, “We don’t know. I don’t know. That’s beside the point now. The important thing is, it’s done.”
