When the San Francisco 49ers announced they have brought back one of their own in special-teams ace S Bubba Ventrone they did so at the expense of another, as they waived WR Kassim Osgood. Why?

Osgood who is by far the best special-teams ace in coverage was released three times already this season. He was released at the 53-man deadline, then brought back just days later as the 49ers then placed NT Glenn Dorsey on the IR. Then four days later released him once again to make room for G Alex Boone as he was activated from the exempt list, only to re-sign him two days later as RB LaMichael James asked for his release. Now, Osgood was released once again as the 49ers opted for Ventrone instead. However, the 49ers hope to bring Osgood back sometime in the near future as Coach Harbaugh said, “We’re going to make some mid-week transactions and we’re very hopeful that Kassim will return imminently.”
With the 49ers preparing for the St. Louis Rams (1-3) they will need to bring their special-teams’ A-game as Coach Fisher is no stranger to trick plays such as fake field-goals, onside kicks, etc.
