George Seifert to be inducted into 49ers Hall of Fame

The San Francisco 49ers today announced that former head coach George Seifert will be inducted into the Eddie J. DeBartolo, Sr., San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame. Seifert who led the 49ers to two Super Bowl wins including 1989 and 1994 victories, will be only the 25th person to be enshrined.

Seifert who originally came to the 49ers as the defensive backs coach from 1983-1988, was the head coach of the 49ers during their glory days and the man responsible for replacing the legendary Bill Walsh. However, it was his defensive mindset that made him such a great coach as he led the 49ers to the No. 1 ranked defense in the NFL in 1987, marking the first time ever for a 49ers defense to be ranked No. 1.

Seifert is scheduled to be enshrined November 1, 2014 and will be honored at halftime against the St. Louis Rams on November 2. In eight seasons as head coach of the 49ers, Seifert quickly established himself as one of the all-time greats as he boasted a 98-30 regular season record (.766).

With Seifert set to meet the media tomorrow, we will keep you up-to-date on the latest news as it unfolds.
