DeVante Parker Has Pre-Draft Visit With 49ers

According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, the San Francisco 49ers will be holding a pre-draft visit for Louisville WR DeVante Parker.

The 49ers who have been doing a lot of homework on the Louisville product as they met with him after his pro day will now be meeting with him once again as he is scheduled to come to Santa Clara.

Earlier I stated three reasons why the 49ers should select a wide-receiver with their first-round pick and I stand by that ideology today. I then wrote a follow up article on why a potential 49ers-Browns trade makes sense to land Parker as the two teams can strike a deal that would make sense for both sides. However, it’s all assumptions at this point and as we all know they don’t mean much unless they come to fruition.

However, with 49ers GM Trent Baalke bringing in Parker for a pre-draft visit it is a promising sign considering the team did so with last year’s first-round pick DB Jimmie Ward while also drafting OLB Aaron Lynch in the fifth-round.

In fact, since Baalke took over GM duties five of his six first-round picks have came in for Top 30 visits including OT Anthony Davis, G Mike Iupati, OLB Aldon Smith, WR A.J. Jenkins, and Ward.

A player that has a big catching radius as Parker stands 6-3, 209, you can see where Parker’s value lies. Not to mention, he would be a big red zone threat who would create matchup problems for smaller cornerbacks, Parker would instantly make others around him better as players like TE Vernon Davis can work the middle of the field with no safety help over the top.
