Bills’ Anthony Lynn Will Interview For 49ers Head Coaching Position, Satisfies Rooney Rule

The San Francisco 49ers search for a new head coach will kickoff with Buffalo Bills Assistant Head Coach/RB Coach Anthony Lynn.

Lynn, who played for the 49ers from 1995-1996 will meet with GM Trent Baalke to discuss if he’s the right man for the job according to ESPNs Josina Anderson. The 49ers who will likely make a head coaching decision sooner rather than later, will also satisfy the Rooney Rule with Lynn’s interview.

Could New Orleans Saints HC Sean Payton be their target? Time will tell as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said that Payton is torn between the 49ers and Saints.

However, Payton isn’t the only one on the team’s short list, as Mike Shanahan will be scheduled for an interview sometime next week. The former Washington coach and 49ers offensive coordinator during the team’s last Super Bowl run in 1994, it will be interesting to see if Shanahan will get the job this time around, as he interviewed for the job last season.
