San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis recently told 95.7 The Game that he plans on attending mandatory minicamp on next week. Davis said, “You know what? I plan on being there “I plan on being there.” A good sign considering Davis already forfeited $200,000 for missing voluntary OTAs, he opted not to miss mandatory practices as he would then lose an additional $70,000.
Davis who has other business ventures outside of football including a partnership with Fantex Inc., Gallery 85, The Vernon Davis Foundation for the Arts, and Jamba Juice among others believes his decision to miss voluntary workouts were strictly business related as Davis said, “Everything is all cool between me and the Niners,” Davis said. “You know what? It’s not really about my contract. In life, you have to make business decisions, right? The 49ers are always making business decisions, and I’m a business man and I’m an entrepreneur. So the thing I want to do is get other guys to start making business decisions. When it comes to yourself, you’re your own entity. So why not take charge and do that?”
While Davis will be in attendance, ProFootballTalk reported that G Alex Boone will not. Boone who started all 16 games for the 49ers the last two seasons has two years remaining on his current contract. A player that is vastly underpaid, Boone will forfeit around $20,000 for each practice missed and already forfeited around $50,000 in workout bonus.
