The San Francisco 49ers today announced that they have traded away second-year TE Asante Cleveland to the New England Patriots in exchange for OL Jordan Devey.

The news come just one game after the 49ers offensive line struggled against the Houston Texans. A team in desperate need for depth along the offensive line, the addition of Devey will help create competition along the line despite Devey being only a serviceable backup at best.
At 6-6, 317, Devey is another behemoth tackle that 49ers GM Trent Baalke loves. You can see the H-W-S that Baalke covets in his offensive lineman. He brought in T Erik Pears from Buffalo and drafted T Trent Brown. Both players are giants.
A smart move by Baalke to trade Cleveland as he was buried on the depth chart behind TE Vernon Davis, TE Derek Carrier, TE Blake Bell and TE Vance McDonald, there was no way he was making the team — so they actually came out winners.
With the 49ers continuing to find talent, it will be interesting to see which players they will keep as there seems to be competition at almost every position — especially the offensive line.
