The San Francisco 49ers scouting department is continuing to make their rounds as the 2014 NFL Draft approaches with numerous pre-draft visits. Players that may have medical concerns or off-field issues, the 49ers brass wants to get a better feel of these prospects to see if they fit the team’s culture and locker room. And with the 49ers already met or scheduled visits with eight of their top 30 visits, they will add one more to the list as small school Towson RB Terrance West will be making the trip to Santa Clara headquarters on Monday.
West, who is built in a similar mold to current 49ers RB Kendall Hunter as he stands 5-foot-9 and 225 pounds is a wrecking ball between the tackles. A hard-nosed runner that displays a physical running presence, it should be no surprise that the 49ers may be targeting this prospect as a late third to early fourth-round draft pick.
At this year’s NFL scouting combine, West ran a 4.54 40-yard dash, 16 reps on the bench-press, 33.5-inch vertical, and 120-inch broad jump. Compare those numbers to what Hunter put up as he ran a 4.53 40-yard dash, 24 reps on the bench-press, 35.0-inch vertical, and 122-inch broad jump and you can see where the measurables lie.
With the 49ers continuing to bring prospects in for pre-draft visits, keep in mind that no first or second-round pick was asked to do so as the last player was WR A.J. Jenkins.
