The San Francisco 49ers scouting department continues to dig deep to find those diamonds in the rough and as a result will be bringing in McGill University (Montreal) T Laurent Duvernay-Tardif to Santa Clara headquarters. The Canadian medical student is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the CFL draft and has since gained momentum as an NFL prospect as the NFL draft approaches. Duvernay-Tardif who tweeted his anticipated arrival to the Bay Area said:
Off to San Francisco!

A massive offensive tackle as McGill stands 6-5 and 321 pounds, it’s no wonder GM Trent Baalke has him high on his radar. However, he’s not the only one that is interested as the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, Cleveland Browns, and Chicago Bears are all taking a hard look at the Canadian football star. In addition, it has been the 49ers, Packers, Bears, and Eagles that have shown the most interest according to Duvernay-Tardif.
So the question remains, if the 49ers pick him up in the fourth or fifth-round, how will he translate his CFL game to the NFL? Considering other former CFL players have been successful such as the Dolphins DE Cameron Wake it can be done. And with Duvernay-Tardif having an impressive pro day as he ran 5.05 second 40-yard dash, 34 reps on the bench press, 31.5-inch vertical, 114-inch broad jump, and 7.21 second three-cone drill, those numbers would have ranked among the top performers for offensive lineman.
With the NFL Draft fast approaching the 49ers are going above and beyond in order to make sure there’s no stone left unturned as they prepare for the 2014 NFL Draft.
