The San Francisco 49ers are continuing their search for a viable No. 3 option despite signing WR Brandon Lloyd to a one-year contract, as they will hold a pre-draft visit for Colorado’s WR Paul Richardson. A true burner as Richardson ran a 4.40 40-yard dash there is no question Richardson has the speed to be a threat between the 20’s. Not to mention, he displayed elite explosiveness with his 38-inch vertical and 124-inch broad jump, Richardson should be around in the third-round.
At 6-foot and 175 pounds, Richardson has the H-W-S that GM Trent Baalke covets. And with him having an elongated wingspan of 32 5/8, it’s no wonder Baalke brought him in for a pre-draft visit. However, durability is a concern as Richardson missed the entire 2012 season due to a torn ACL. But it’s Richardson’s separation skills that make him valuable. He runs crisp routes coming in-and-out of his breaks while taking no false steps and has the football savvy to find soft spots in zone coverage.
A likely third-round targeted player by the 49ers as they have not held pre-draft visits for first or second-round draft picks since WR A.J. Jenkins, it will be interesting to see how high they are on the former Colorado product. In 2013, Richardson finished with 83 catches for 1,343 receiving yards, 16.1 average, and 10 touchdowns.
