49ers’ Starting Offensive Line May Be In Trouble In 2015

The San Francisco 49ers announced their starting offensive line for the 2015 season as it will feature LT Joe Staley, LG Alex Boone, C Marcus Martin, RG Jordan Devey, and RT Erik Pears.

A unit that is undeniably shaky on the right side, it remains to be seen how well Devey and Pears will gel, as they try and build rapport with each other. A task easier said than done as the two have yet to play a live snap in a game together, 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula believes that Devey is the right man for the job.

“There’s a calmness about him,” Tomsula told local beat writers today. “He’s a smart guy, came in there and really got it quick. So, just like where he’s at.”

If you remember, Devey was acquired in a trade that sent TE Asante Cleveland to the New England Patriots back on August 18.

Like Pears, Devey graded out poorly by Pro Football Focus, when he started four of seven games for the Super Bowl Champs at both right and left guard. In fact, he was responsible for one sack, three quarterback knockdowns, and nine quarterback hurries. Not great if you ask me. However, what choice do the 49ers have?

Maybe they should take a chance on second-year G Brandon Thomas, but as of right now it appears he is on the outside looking in, leaving the team to roll the dice on newcomer Devey.
