The San Francisco 49ers made big news today as they signed free-agent LB Blake Costanzo. A special-teams ace in his short stint in San Francisco, the leader of the Tony Montana Squad is back. In 2011, Costanzo ranked second on the team in special-teams tackles with 17.
A prediction I made back in January as I wrote an article on why he should be brought back, that has now turned into reality as I said, “A great player that was a fan favorite on special-teams, do not be surprised if Costanzo is brought back as he will be a hot special teams commodity on the open-market. Just ask 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, as he spoke about Costanzo while he was on the team saying, “Attitude, great attitude. Guys feed off that. Gives us a great look in practice. He’ll play fullback for you, he’ll play linebacker, anything that you need him to do. He’s been a great addition, just another example of this team, these guys affecting each other.”
With Costanzo now back in the fold, it will clearly create another camp battle as LB Dan Skuta and LB Nick Moody will have to prove their worth to remain on the 53-man roster. Tony Montana, Tony Montana!
