The San Francisco 49ers today announced the signings of two of their top rookies in first-round pick (No. 30) DB Jimmie Ward and third-round pick (No. 77) ILB Chris Borland. The two rookies agreed to four-year deals and will now focus their attention on rookie minicamp.
A camp that spans from May 23-25, all eyes will be on both of these players as they get acclimated to not only the coaching staff but their teammates. Ward who was praised by both GM Trent Baalke and HC Jim Harbaugh for his ability to blanket slot receivers, he will now get his chance to showcase that skill set as he will likely be matched up against fourth-round pick WR Bruce Ellington.
Borland on the other hand will find himself in a camp battle with local product ILB Shayne Skov. An undrafted rookie that already is familiar with some of the positional drills due to his time at Stanford, Skov will have the inside track early on as he fights to make the 53-man roster.
A draft class that features 12 rookies, it will be interesting to see these rookies in action as the hype is alive and kicking.
