The San Francisco 49ers shook up their roster on Tuesday as they placed ILB Patrick Willis on (IR) while then signing RB Alfonso Smith to a one-year deal. A player that was signed by the 49ers back on July 29, Smith was a late roster cut as he was released just one month later.
The 49ers weren’t done there as they brought back yet another familiar face in undrafted rookie free-agent ILB Shayne Skov. The Stanford product will now go back to the team’s practice squad.
49ers rookie seventh-round picks DE Kaleb Ramsey and FB Trey Millard were both cleared to practice yesterday. Ramsey who was on the PUP list and Millard who was on the NFI (Non-football injury) list will now have a 21-day window of practice time before the 49ers make a decision on whether to add them to the 53-man roster, place them on season-ending IR, or release them.
