Davis was starting to show a lot of promise and was working towards becoming a starter, as cornerbacks such as CB Tramaine Brock have been consistently getting burned by receivers. This season, he registered 2 tackles and 0.5 sacks, appearing in four games.
Subsequently, the 49ers have signed CB JaCorey Shepherd to a deal in order to replace Davis. Shepherd was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2015 NFL draft with the 151st pick in the 6th round.
He is yet another player that the 49ers have signed who is trying to find his way into a consistent role in the league. In college, he showed promise with his abilities to stay with his man and somehow find a way to get a hand on the ball. If he works hard enough, he could prove that he belongs.
