49ers’ Offensive Coordinator search should include Greg Knapp

As San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York and GM Trent Baalke continue to do their due diligence with the team’s revamped coaching staff, the question remains, who the next offensive coordinator will be? A team that had continuity under the Harbaugh regime, it will be interesting to see how Jim Tomsula’s staff will shape-up, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

Two names that continue to swirl around Levi’s Stadium for the offensive coordinator position are Rob Chudzinski and Marc Trestman. Two coaches who are considered offensive gurus, both of them would do a nice job in further developing QB Colin Kaepernick. However, it’s another name who I feel would do a nice job and that’s former 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Knapp. arcia Knapp, who has ties to the team dating back to 1995, has worked his way up the ladder in the NFL while gaining 11 years of coordinating experience. From 2001 to 2003, Knapp served as the 49ers offensive coordinator and helped mold QB Jeff Garcia into a two-time Pro Bowl quarterback during that span.

A quarterback with dual-threat ability, Knapp also molded QB Michael Vick into a two-time Pro Bowl selection in two of his three years in Atlanta.

So what does this mean for the 49ers? Well, considering they have a young dual-threat quarterback of their own, the Knapp-Kap connection could come into play as Knapp’s offense ranked no lower than 8th while with the 49ers.

With the 49ers continuing to build their staff, you can be sure no stone will be left unturned as they try to field the best possible staff for Tomsula’s new look regime.
