The San Francisco 49ers have finally closed the door on two of their top defensive players as ILB NaVorro Bowman and NT Glenn Dorsey were placed on season-ending IR. Bowman and Dorsey were both activated to the 53-man roster in hopes of maybe playing this season. However, Bowman had yet to partake in team practice while Dorsey’s biceps injury has lingered, leaving them to bring up two young healthy players from the practice squad in CB Marcus Cromartie and G Andrew Tiller.
Cromatie was signed to the team’s practice squad on Nov. 18 and originally broke into the league as an undrafted rookie free-agent. Not to mention, Cromartie’s blood lines also run deep as his cousins are CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and CB Antonio Cromartie, look for Cromartie to make a name for himself as his height, weight, and speed make him an ideal cornerback under DC Vic Fangio’s scheme. At 6-0 and 195 pounds, Cromartie should be a nice addition on special-teams early on.
With the 49ers shutting down Bowman and Dorsey, they can heal them for a full season as they make their Super Bowl push in 2015.
