49ers’ Meet With RB Reggie Bush

The San Francisco 49ers lost not only their workhorse but their heart and soul of the team’s offense when RB Frank Gore agreed to sign with the Indianapolis Colts.

Now, the 49ers are looking for a running back by committee approach and as a result are bringing in free-agent RB Reggie Bush in for a visit today.

Bush, who attended USC would be an excellent change of pace back to second-year RB Carlos Hyde as Bush is more of a scat back with dual-threat ability in the passing game. Hyde is more of a north-south runner so having a halfback like Bush wouldn’t be a bad idea.

However, the team already has RB Kendall Hunter who is coming off a torn ACL so it will be interesting to see how Bush would fit into the 49ers plans.

One idea would be to have Bush be a triple-threat in the return game as he could return punts and kickoffs. Something Bush wouldn’t mind doing especially in a crowded backfield.

With the 49ers moving on from Gore, they will need to find a player who fits their scheme as Gore was simply the best.
