Yesterday it was all eyes on WR Mike Evans (Texas A&M) and today it was CB Jason Verrett (TCU), as Director of College Scouting Matt Malaspina was on hand for both Pro Days. Another player I said the 49ers would target back in January as I compared Verrett to a poor man’s CB Tim Jennings, Verrett did not disappoint. A player that plays well in off-coverage while staying stride-for-stride with speedy receivers, Verrett’s skill-set is among the best in the draft.
During today’s Pro Day, Verrett knocked out 19 reps on the bench-press (225 pound) while showing off his hops with a 39.5 inch-vertical. A true competitor as Verrett has been shining despite a torn labrum (shoulder) that will require surgery later this month, it was impressive to see him go through all the drills and workouts. With Verrett continuing to be the No. 3 ranked cornerback on my Big Board, it will be interesting to see if the 49ers trade-up for his services as he will likely go in the first 20-25 picks.
