49ers’ Host Pre-Draft Visits For CB Jalen Collins And Chris Dunkley

The San Francisco 49ers lost their two starting cornerbacks in each of the past two seasons so it’s no wonder the team is doing their due diligence on this year’s cornerback draft class. A weak cornerback draft class as there is no player worthy of a top 15 selection, it appears the 49ers will be looking at some lower tier cornerbacks in LSU CB Jalen Collins and USF CB Chris Dunkley, as both are scheduled to come in for pre-draft visits.

Dunkley who played mainly wide-receiver before being converted to cornerback last season, will be an intriguing prospect considering others before him have had huge success with the transition including Seattle Seahawks CB Richard Sherman and Green Bay Packers CB Sam Shields. And at 6-0, 188, Dunkley has the length that 49ers GM Trent Baalke covets.

However, Dunkley does have some red flags as he was arrested in September 2012 on a charge of domestic violence battery while also being academically ineligible during his time at Florida.

In addition, the 49ers will also bring in Collins. The LSU product showed a strong performance at the NFL combine as he ran a 4.48 40-yard dash, 36-inch vertical, and 6.77 second three-cone drill. And at 6-1, 203, Collins has again the length that Baalke loves.

With the 49ers looking for cornerbacks you can be sure they will get one somewhere in the draft, the question is when?
