According to CSN Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco, the San Francisco 49ers held a pre-draft visit with Miami T Seantrel Henderson. Another player with red flags it’s no wonder the Niners brass brought him in for a pre-draft visit. The other troubled prospect was DE/OLB Demarcus Lawrence from Boise State, as he was suspended three times during his tenure, and Henderson is no different.
During his time at “The U,” Henderson has vastly underachieved despite his physical stature. At 6-7 and 331 pounds, Henderson would be an imposing freak if his mind is committed to football. That’s a big “if.” During his tenure as a Hurricane, Henderson was suspended multiple times including the 2011 season opener, 2012 spring practices, and 2013 game against Georgia Tech. In addition, Henderson said he, “was partying a little too much at times.”
However, partying wasn’t the only factor in his suspensions as marijuana and three motor vehicle violations following car accident in August 2012. And if that wasn’t enough to look away, then maybe his work ethic is, as he had to stop twice during his Pro Day because he was poorly conditioned. So with a long list of red flags, why would the 49ers even consider this potential disaster, especially with their recent off-field woes? Well, he does have upside and sky’s the limit if put in the right situation.
He has an elongated wingspan at 34.5 inch arms, something GM Trent Baalke covets and especially important for offensive tackles. Not to mention, Henderson has the potential to be an outstanding right tackle with his quick feet and brute strength, he is a player that may be worth the risk in the fifth-round. A player that reminds me of T Anthony Davis as he has the mean streak, aggressiveness, and athleticism to keep pass-rushers at bay, Henderson is definitely a wild-card in this year’s draft.
At the NFL combine, Henderson ran a 5.09 second 40-yard dash, had a 24-inch vertical, 95-inch broad jump, 8.15 second three-cone drill, and 4.77 second short-shuttle.
