49ers’ GM Trent Baalke Poised To Strike Long Term Deal With Aldon Smith

The San Francisco 49ers beat writers had the opportunity to sit down with 49ers’ GM Trent Baalke last night. And while he looks to remain set with the depth at offensive line, he did talk about other concerns heading into the season, including 49ers OLB Aldon Smith’s contract.

Smith, who will be without his sidekick (DE Justin Smith) will now have to fend for himself, as he now has to get acclimated with a new running mate on the right side. That player appears to be DE Glenn Dorsey.

Dorsey, who is having an exceptional camp thus far as he recovers from a torn biceps injury which prevented him to miss the 2014 season will now be looking to have a Pro Bowl type season. Smith who received high praise from Baalke last night looks to be set on striking a long-term deal with the club.

And that’s great news considering Aldon is an absolute freak coming off the edge. In fact, I would believe him to have an All-Pro season under DC Eric Mangini’s new aggressive scheme. Whether lining up on the right side or left, you can be sure that Mangini will move him around to ensure he is in the best position possible to wreck havoc in the backfield.

In 50 regular-season games, Smith has racked up 152 tackles, 44.0 sacks, and five forced fumbles.
