San Francisco 49ers G Alex Boone was absent from OTA’s today. Boone who has started all 16 games over the last two seasons in San Francisco, was reportedly missing due to wanting a new contract extension. Boone who has two years remaining on his current contract is seeking more than $2 million annually, as that’s what he’s roughly making right now.

However, since OTA’s are considered voluntary, he will not be fined as mandatory minicamp is the one to watch as that runs from June 17-19. If Boone misses any or all of those practices he will be fined $20,000 for each practice missed.

A strange turn of events as G Mike Iupati is also in a contract year, it will be interesting to see which one the 49ers will keep as there are other players worthy of contract extensions such as QB Colin Kaepernick, WR Michael Crabtree, and OLB Aldon Smith.
