The San Francisco 49ers stayed on the defensive side of the ball in the second-round (No. 46) to select Samford product SS Jaquiski Tartt.
A small-school kid from Samford as Tartt stands 6-1, 221, the pick was nonetheless a surprise to me considering the team’s other pressing needs namely wide-receiver. A safety that can come down and hit, Tartt’s best attribute is his run support as he can lay the wood.
#49ers 2nd-round pick SS Jaquiski Tartt is the first player from Samford to play in the Senior Bowl.

However, Tartt is somewhat of a liability in pass-coverage as he allows too many deep balls to get behind him especially on corner routes while being too overly aggressive with ball-carriers.
An interesting pick but one that 49ers GM Trent Baalke made, it will be interesting to see where he fits in the 49ers plans as he may start off as a gunner on special-teams.
