When the San Francisco drafted C Daniel Kilgore drafted G/C Daniel Kilgore in the fifth-round (No. 163) of the 2011 NFL Draft, they had no idea he would blossom into a starting caliber center. A late-round pick from small-school Appalachian State, Kilgore literally started from the bottom while defying the odds. Now, as Kilgore enters his fourth-season with the team, he will be given the keys to the 49ers offense. Kilgore, spoke on his new role during mandatory minicamp as he met with the media. Below is a transcript of Kilgore and his lofty expectations for the upcoming season.
On becoming the full-fledged starter in 2014:
“I’m extremely ready for it. I have had four years to prepare for it, so I’m ready.
On if he and Kaepernick are on the same page as far as chemistry/snaps exchanges:
“Kap and I came in together. We started taking snaps from day one.”
On the amount of film-study during the off-season:
“Oh geez. This is as much as we do in season. Today will be 12 hours. We do two and a half hours of practice and the rest is film study.
Kilgore went on to say that he fully accepts the challenges that lie ahead this upcoming season and his preparation and attention to detail will be instrumental to his success in 2014.
