When I interviewed San Francisco 49ers WR Quinton Patton back in training camp last season, I gave rise to his first NFL nickname 7-11. My reasoning was because I had a gut feeling that the QB Colin Kaepernick to Patton combo would prove deadly. A prediction I anticipated before Patton took a snap in the NFL preseason as he was still recovering from a fractured finger, he prove me right as he made play-after-play while recording multiple touchdowns.
Now, the two have been working diligently together this off-season as both are in Miami, Florida to fine tune their chemistry and development. Last year, then 49ers WR Ricardo Lockette was Kaepernick’s running mate during the off-season and now that he’s with the Seattle Seahawks, Patton has fulfilled that role.
A player I predicted the 49ers to draft just six days after their Super Bowl loss to the Baltimore Ravens, make no mistake Patton is on the rise for a breakout campaign in 2014. However, that success will greatly depend on how much OC Greg Roman uses 11 personnel.
Whether or not Patton will be used more frequently remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, he’s in Miami and working hard on his craft just like Kaepernick.
